Acoustic ceiling islands for offices

Ceiling islands are the most elegant solution for open spaces with high ceilings. Unlike traditional suspended ceiling systems that cover the entire ceiling, ceiling islands are floating panels strategically placed above areas where much sound is produced: meeting tables, workstations, reception desks, or lounge corners. The gap between the island and the structural ceiling creates additional sound absorption on the top side, allowing ceiling islands to capture sound on both sides—far more effective than wall panels, which work on only one side.

Our SilentCloud and SilentScape collections offer dozens of different shapes: from sleek rectangular islands to organic cloud shapes and geometric compositions. All panels are made from professional acoustic materials with sound absorption values between αw 0.90 and 1.0 (Class A absorption). Available in the full S.line color palette, with optional integrated LED lighting for a fully integrated ceiling solution.

The great advantage of ceiling islands: they can be installed without removing the existing ceiling, work perfectly in spaces with activated concrete cores or visible installations, and preserve the open, industrial character of the space while drastically improving acoustics.

The benefits of acoustic ceiling panels

Double-sided sound absorption

Ceiling islands absorb sound on both the underside and top side. The cavity between the island and the structural ceiling provides additional absorption. A treatment covering 30% of the ceiling area delivers comparable results to 50% wall treatment.

Preservation of industrial character

In spaces with concrete ceilings or high-end architecture, a full system ceiling is undesirable. Ceiling islands address acoustics without hiding the characteristic appearance. Perfect for offices to renovated factories.

No conflict with technical installations

Activated concrete cores, underfloor heating via ceiling, sprinkler systems, and lighting remain fully accessible. Ceiling islands are strategically placed between technical elements without limiting functionality.

Quick and flexible installation

A professional can install 20-30m² of ceiling islands in one workday. Since the panels hang from cables, they can be easily relocated during reconfiguration. The floating height is adjustable without disassembly, which is convenient for changing requirements.

Integrated lighting possible

Many ceiling islands can be equipped with built-in LED spots (2700K or 4000K), integrating lighting and acoustics into a single solution. This saves costs on separate lighting fixtures and creates a sleek, uniform ceiling design.

Efficient in large spaces

In halls, open office atriums, or spaces with very high ceilings (4+ meters), wall panels are less effective because sound primarily circulates above head height. Ceiling islands place acoustic treatment exactly where it is needed.

At what height should I hang the ceiling islands?

The recommended minimum suspended height is 150mm between island and structural ceiling for optimal absorption at the top. For visual impact, islands can be hung at varying heights (150-800mm), as long as the lowest islands hang at least 2.2 meters above the floor for clear passage. In spaces with significant length (>8 meters), varying heights creates a more dynamic effect.

What percentage of my ceiling should I treat?

For office gardens, we recommend 30-40% coverage, for meeting rooms with much conversation 40-50%, and for lounges or receptions 20-30%. As a rule of thumb: treat at least the surface area above locations where much sound is produced (workstations, meeting tables, reception points) plus an additional 20% for overlap.

Can the islands be installed in an existing suspended ceiling system?

Yes, with special T-bar clips, SilentScape and SilentCloud panels can be integrated into existing ceiling grid systems. This is a cost-effective way to upgrade an existing office without completely replacing the ceiling.

Won’t ceiling islands collect dust?

The polyester finish is treated to be dust-repellent. Light dust can be removed with a feather duster, while heavy dirt can be cleaned with a damp cloth. In normal office environments, annual maintenance is sufficient. In production environments or kitchens, we recommend additional stain-resistant treatment.

Is lighting integration always possible?

Most ceiling islands can be equipped with built-in LED spots. We standardly provide 2700K (warm white) or 4000K (daylight white) LED modules. The spots are pre-mounted in white, aluminum, or black fixtures. Custom colors are available upon request. Minimum order for illuminated islands is 5 units.

What is the difference between SilentCloud and SilentScape?

SilentCloud focuses on statement designs featuring large, eye-catching shapes (clouds, circles, asymmetric forms). SilentScape, on the other hand, emphasizes elegant, minimalist rectangular panels with subtle variations. SilentCloud is ideal for spaces where acoustics can be a visual design element, while SilentScape suits offices preferring discreet, professional solutions.

Can I adjust the floating height later myself?

Yes, the suspension cables have adjustable lengths that can be modified without tools. This is convenient if the space gains a different function or if measurements reveal a different desired height.
